Creative Design process explained (or put another way what we do)

Clients often wonder how we come up with our creative design ideas and arrive at a final piece of graphic design or concept. The following is a brief overview of our creative design process. If there is anything here we haven’t covered in full that you would like more information on please contact us and we’ll do our best to answer any questions.

The Briefing Meeting (understanding your business)

This is really a chance for us to ask you lots of questions about your company and helps us to develop a deeper insight so that we can fully understand the dynamics of your business:

  • Your business in detail
  • Your business needs
  • The mind-set of your customers (how do they really see you compared to your competitors?)
  • Your competitors approach to market (what ground are they covering and why)
  • What does your company do well?
  • What does your company do not so well?
  • What is you customers true point of view?

These questions don’t just cover they way your company appears but they look at how you treat your customers and how you do business overall. These question are important in how we approach the creative design process in the next stage.

Initial Creative Design Ideas (mind mapping and mood boards)

Here the creativity starts but not without a firm foundation first. We focus initially on researching your market, looking at your competitors.

  • What do they do well?
  • What do you do well?
  • Where could things be improved?
  • Is their something you don’t shout about that you should?
  • Is there a customer perception of you that is incorrect?
  • Is there an area of the market you could capitalise on that no one else is?

We would then produce some initial creative design concepts and ideas for your company tone of voice and approach to the market. These involve core strategies in the form of copy lines and graphic imagery covering several very different creative approaches to your market, in the form of mood boards. These boards give you a very clear idea of the approach going forward. They will show typographic style, colours, imagery or graphics and copy lines. Some previous mood boards are illustrated below:

Final Creative Designs and Art Work (concept to reality)

At this stage you will have chosen a visual style and tone of voice that best suites your company and we will then develop the initial mood boards forward and show how your actual marketing collateral will look this will cover: advertising, brochure design, product leaflets, direct mail, corporate literature, website design, corporate stationery, packaging design and any branding adjustment we would recommend. An example of this stage is shown below:

Conclusion (the true value of creative design)

We thought it would be good to show a before and after of the client we have taken the above examples from. Pictures illustrate better than words what we can do to transform a clients marketing collateral and their customer’s perception of the business.
